The Wildfire virus is the pathogen responsible for reanimating the dead. In the spinoff series "World Beyond," it is revealed towards the end of the second season that the virus originated from La Biomédicine DDMI, a research center in France. The Daryl Dixon spinoff series, set in France, is expected to have at least a second season.

This will be resolved as YES if:

  • An official spinoff or media (film or series) within The Walking Dead's original TV universe provides a detailed explanation for both WHY the Wildfire virus was created (Was it for biological warfare? Reanimation experiments for resurrection?) and HOW the outbreak began and escaped the research facility (Was it an accident? An act of terrorism?). All explanations must be provided before the end of 2030.

  • The explanation must be canonical and derived from in-universe statements by characters or context (within films, spinoffs, or prequel series). Statements by creators or through other means or media do not qualify.

  • The actual origin of the virus does not have to be La Biomédicine DDMI, as long as the true origin and the reasons for its creation and method of escape are addressed.

  • If the virus's creation was accidental or if it was discovered on another planet instead of being man-made, this is also valid.

  • Implicit explanations for the outbreak (such as an accidental containment breach due to the virus's high contagion rate) are acceptable.

  • This criterion applies even if the pathogen is ultimately not a virus (e.g., nanomachines, supernatural entities) as long as the reasons for its creation and method of outbreak are somewhat stated in-universe.

This will be resolved as NO if:

  • The above conditions are not met.

  • It is revealed that the virus was discovered and studied, but its precise origin is not clearly stated (e.g., scientists found the Wildfire virus in a general area like "France" but its true origin remains unknown).

  • The Walking Dead franchise concludes or is indefinitely suspended without the possibility of further official series or films.

  • It approaches 2030 and any announced spinoffs or series are scheduled for release after 2030.

  • A "universe reset" occurs, in which any future films or series will be set in a different universe from that of the original TV series.
