is only up to November but gives a ~50000 lead to Model Y:

"Looking at the cumulative data up to November 2023, the best-selling car in the World becomes the Tesla Model Y -up 3 spots- with 1.06 million units sold (+57.1%).

Second place is in the hands of previous year’s leader the Toyota Corolla, with current YTD sales at 1.01 million up 0.7% from the previous year."

The most sold car model will not be electric vehicles in 2023 and this expectation could be continuous. The EV can become the bestselling car over a period of time, but what remains is what people are used to or what they rely on the most in terms of brand, logo, quality, sustainability, and comfortability. According to (Weatherbed, 2023), Tesla Model Y became the bestselling car during the first quarter of this year.

It marked the highest number of purchases in comparison with Corolla and RAV4 (Weatherbed, 2023). We can say that EV is competing the other manufacturers, but it may not ensure taking the first place of the most sold cars during 2023. The company of Tesla hasn’t reported a higher revenue than Toyota, Volkswagen, and ford. And in terms of logo, Tesla is not among the top ten most popular car models and obviously not the biggest manufacturer of car around the world (Weatherbed, 2023). It was predicted by Musk that Tesla will remain the bestselling car in 2022, but it did not happen and it was ranked in the third place, instead, SUV was ranked the bestselling model of car in both U.S. and Europe (Weatherbed, 2023).

Electric cars are becoming really popular, and I think they might be the best-selling car model in 2023. Here's why: First, electric cars have gotten a lot cheaper over the past five years, so more people can afford them. They can also go much farther on a single charge now, making them more practical for everyday use. Many folks are choosing electric cars because they're good for the environment, perform well, and cost less to run.

Governments are even giving people incentives like tax breaks and special driving privileges to get electric cars. The Tesla Model Y, which is an electric car, is already the world's best-seller, and I think it will keep that title in 2023. Of course, there are challenges, like needing more places to charge electric cars and making the batteries cheaper. But governments and companies are working on those problems, so electric cars are on the rise.

@Adithpai I agree with your bet. Current sales of EVs, especially the Tesla Model Y, show that there is a shift toward an EV-dominating future. EV sales increased by 40% from previous years, adding up to 6 million units by the first half of 2023, expected to reach 14 million by the end of 2023 (EV-Volumes, 2023). China is responsible for around 60% of global EV sales, followed by Europe and the US. The Tesla Model Y has been a standout, consistently winning best-seller titles, hinting at its potential dominance in 2023 (CleanTechnica Contributors, 2023).

However, in 2022 globally only 14% of new car sales were EVs (IEA Contributors, 2023). Combined this shows that there is a significant increase in EV sales but non-electric vehicles are still dominating global sales. Tesla’s Model Y has been among the best-selling vehicles worldwide in past years and currently ranks at the top of the list which gives a high probability that it will be the best-selling car in 2023 (CleanTechnica Contributors, 2023). This context suggests that Tesla does have unusually high EV sales compared to competitors.

Further analysis could include a consumer preference study to understand the factors influencing EV purchases over traditional vehicles, a breakdown of regional EV sales to identify high adoption areas, and tracking the development of EV charging infrastructure, a critical factor for widespread EV adoption (OpenAI, 2023).

@Adithpai That an interesting analysis, while I agree that EVs have been popular, Tesla Model Y becoming top bought car in Q1 and the increase rise in interest in EVs, it doesn’t mean EVs will become the top sold car be 2023. EVs may dominate the US market significantly. But not enough to take over.

The Asia-Oceanic , Middle East  and Europe markets  bought the highest cars in 2022 and still leading till date. As of the end of 2022, Toyota maintained a significant global market share, outpacing many competitors. In contrast, while EV sales have been increasing, they still accounted for a relatively small percentage of total vehicle sales. For instance, in 2021, EVs represented only about 8.6% of the global car market, whereas Toyota alone commanded a substantial portion of the total sales volume. Toyota's strength lies in its diverse range of vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, trucks, hybrids, and increasingly, electric models. This breadth allows them to cater to a wider audience than manufacturers focusing primarily on EVs. Toyota vehicles generally maintain strong resale values and are known for their lower total cost of ownership when compared to many EVs, which are often more expensive upfront and may have uncertain long-term battery replacement costs. Taking into consideration these factors Toyota will maintain its leadership 2023 year ended as EVs continue to gain momentum for the future.
