This just seems too high for a unannounced apple product

https://9to5mac.com/2023/02/22/exclusive-iphone-15-cads-reveal-larger-6-2-inch-display-dynamic-island-and-more/

Just a week after we posted exclusive renders of the iPhone 15 Pro based off CAD files, we managed to obtain 3D CAD files for the iPhone 15, which reveal some of the design changes and features that Apple is planning for its next-generation smartphone.

...

Another change that we spotted on the CAD files is that the iPhone 15 will finally adopt USB-Type C as its charging port.

Assuming their files are accurate, which they likely are, Apple decided to go with USB C for the iPhone 15 models, which are almost certainly going to be announced in September 2023.

Updated position to NO based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdgRUCVUts0 as 2025 is the year by which they need to start complying so good chance that they will keep status quo for iPhone 15 and may go port-less thereafter

He could be right about the wireless charging, but I think he's wrong about the dates. He says that Apple could wait until fall 2025 to introduce a USB-C or portless iPhone, but all the press release about the law say it applies to "products sold in 2025" which is very different from "new products released in 2025". Apple probably wants to have a last-gen phone to sell at a discount in Jan 2025, which would mean releasing a compliant phone in 2023.

I couldn't find the relevant section of the statute to confirm this though.

I think Apple will go to no ports instead, wireless charging only
@ahalekelly I don't think that would comply with the single charger law but I don't know. It would be a strange law to mandate a universal standard and then allow an exception that doesn't work nearly as well. https://blog.byjasco.com/down-to-the-wire-usb-c-vs.-qi#:~:text=In%20the%20end%2C%20both%20Qi,USB%2DC%20is%20your%20answer.
@BTE From coverage I've read on this, there's apparently a relevant loophole; since it only applies to devices that have a wired charging port, if a device only has wireless charging, it doesn't need to have a USB-C port. This would support more waterproof devices, encourage the sale of other expensive Apple charging accessories, and allow them to technically comply with the law. https://www.computerworld.com/article/3663731/could-the-eus-usb-c-edict-push-apple-to-cut-the-cord-altogether.html

It is now the law in EU that all devices must be USB-C compatible by January 1 2024.
