Since 2018, Haiti has been undergoing a national crisis. Tied to the crisis in Venezuela, the misuse of loans from that country and the rampant corruption and poor living conditions have led to speculation that Haiti might soon enter a civil war. Some have even called for foreign military intervention before the country reaches that point. So far, 187 protestors and 44 police officers have died during the crisis. President Jovenel Moïse was even assassinated in 2021 by unknown perpetrators.
