Manifold Markets is going to be running a one-week f2p challenge where the Manifold Markets team compete with one another to see who can earn the most mana. Users are also welcome to play along!
Details
To be eligible, you must make a new account containing “f2p” eg. SirSalty F2P. Use your main account (not a f2p one) to tag your f2p account as an answer in this market.
The event begins NOW (used to be Friday 9th 08:00 PST but changed it to start now instead) and ends on Friday 16th 10:00 PST.
The main winner is the individual with the highest Portfolio Value at the end of the event.
At closing time users should screenshot their Portfolio value and post it as a comment to their answer.
Aims
Understand how it feels to be limited to a small balance.
Identify frustration that can accompany using the app to earn mana (which often doesn’t align with how you would want to use it to maximise fun/value).
Learn the most effective ways to earn mana.
Explore the social competitive/tournament potential of Manifold.
Have fun!
Prizes
The top performers from the community will receive free Manifold Merch and a manalink.
The Manifold team member who performs the best receives:
Pride
A personal poem or song of praise from each losing Manifold team member to be recited during drop-in hours or all-hands standup.
Side prize: The person with the highest profit is exempt from writing a Haiku (assuming they aren’t the overall winner).
Rules
The 500 manalink as part of the onboarding email flow may be used immediately to bring your starting balance up to M$1500.
Mana cannot be added to your account through manalinks (except the initial one), purchases, or direct edits in firebase.
Any mana received through tips cannot be used and must be discarded by donating it to charity. This is to prevent people from gaining an unfair advantage such as people users betting on who they think will win and then tipping them a ton of mana.
Mana earned through referrals, unique trader bonuses, and betting/selling is allowed.
Users may not bet on their f2p created markets with any of their other accounts.
Users may not bet on a market with both their f2p account and their main account (otherwise mana could be transferred between accounts by doing this).
Users may not use their main account to influence their F2P one in any way. This includes subsidising markets made by their f2p account, subsidising someone else's market and then switching account to bet on it, and betting on your main account markets with your F2P account.
For Manifold team only: You cannot feature your own f2p markets
For Manifold team only: You are strictly prohibited from creating markets, betting, tipping, and creating answers on any accounts besides your f2p one during the duration of the event. This is to partly avoid cheating, but mainly so you get to go through the new user experience of being limited to a certain amount of mana and how it forces you to interact with the site. You may still use your other accounts to comment and subside markets as long as they aren’t created by any f2p accounts.
There’s a cheating Twist!
On the final two days (so Wednesday 14th 09:00 PST onwards) cheating is encouraged. Any cheating before the final 2 days is not allowed and will result in immediate disqualification.
If someone correctly accuses you of cheating during the last 2 days you must discard double however much mana you earned from that specific cheat. The accuser must state with accuracy exactly how the offender cheated. Thorough evidence is not necessary if they can identify the cheat and outline the specifics of what they suspect. Cheats can be reported for up to 24 hours after the conclusion of the event (until Saturday 17th 09:00 PST).
For example, you could attempt to sneak yourself a manalink or try to sneak yourself some tips. Or create another new account to benefit from. But I assume people are going to be keeping an eye on the backend and amplitude to watch out for cheating so be careful! :P
Any form of cheating is allowed except the following:
Resolving markets incorrectly
Using admin privileges to cheat in ways regular users wouldn’t be able to (eg. directly editing your balance in firebase or featuring/delisting f2p markets).
Sep 9, 4:37am: Updated rules to change start date. Also changed rules so that f2p markets can be featured, you just can't feature your own.
Sep 9, 5:37am: Added rule 5. and 6. about betting with main account on f2p stuff.
Sep 9, 8:37pm: Added rule 7.
Sep 10, 12:11am: Fixed mis-type (screenshot of portfolio value, previously said investment value)
@BTE
gets the money.
Burning Mani's free cash,
throwing fools in the trash.
You wish you were this known.
'cause this man is in the zone!
@MartinRandall I think the rule should be that we can transfer at least everything that isn't our 'starting 1500', since that's all earned in ways that would just have been earned by the main account otherwise. (and saying we could transfer all would be a nice participation prize, hint hint @Manifold :) )
@BenjaminCosmanc733 I would endorse this rule too -- though judgements are up to @SirSalty ultimately!
@ManifoldMarkets re "At closing time users should screenshot their investment value and post it as a comment to their answer.": perhaps use 'portfolio value' instead; otherwise there'll be a weird effect where we have to dump every cent into a market at the end for it to count
@BenjaminCosmanc733 Oh I meant to write portfolio value but clearly that isn't what ended up being written down! Will update it, thanks for catching that.
How well do you think we can do? https://manifold.markets/BenjaminCosmanc733/will-the-winner-of-the-f2p-tourname
@BTEF2P Glad you're enjoying! Sorry I keep having to add new rules in opposition to actions you are taking. I swear it's not rigged! Just want it to be fair and I did a poor job at making the initial ruleset as clear as possible ^^
@AustinF2P I'm also at 2.1k now!
Also I think my account is bugged though? My portfolio balance is just showing my balance and no counting my investment value for some reason
