Shipping is at the early stages of an energy transition to alternatives to fossil fuels. The last decade saw an increase in vessels sailing on LNG, but that will likely change as the climate benefits are limited/uncertain. Will LNG continue to be the most ordered alternative fuel? Or replaced by the second most, methanol? Or will ammonia begin to dominate as the first engines become available in 2024?

@ChrisMillsc5f7 LNG, which makes up about 5% of the global fleet, is considered an “alternative” to fuel oil, but of course not a low- or zero-emissions alternative. Wind can be used on any type of ship including fuel oil, so it would not be considered an alternative here.
