Season 51 just closed. SNL Season 51 concluded May 16, 2026 with Will Ferrell hosting the finale. The season's host list is complete and does not include Mamdani. So any YES resolution has to come from late-Season-52 episodes — call it ~8 broadcast slots between October and December 31, 2026.
Lorne Michaels reportedly rejected the pitch. During the campaign, the show opted for Ramy Youssef to portray Mamdani in sketches rather than have Mamdani himself appear. That's a creative-direction choice that doesn't usually reverse once made.
FCC Equal Time Rule (Jan 21, 2026). The new rule makes broadcast appearances by active politicians significantly more burdensome for the network. NYC mayor counts; SNL is broadcast on NBC. Not a hard bar, but a real cost on the network's side.
