Will Elon Musk become left-coded again before 2035?

Elon used to be looked up to as a left wing hero due to his support for electric vehicles and green energy. Then the left stopped wanting to fix climate change and started wanting to kill billionares and censor everyone they disagreed with, so his position shifted. Elon leaned into this shift by becoming a supposed free speech champion and antivaxxer. (Or at least making it look like he is in order to court right-wing followers.)

If this changes and he's once again seen as left wing before 2035, this market resolves YES. This is very subjective and based on my personal experiences and interactions seeing people talking about Elon.

The biggest single event that led to him being right-coded was when he called the cave diver he didn't like a pedophile.

@ForrestTaylor Interesting, why do you say that? I've seen about the same level of hatred of pedophiles among the left and the right.

@IsaacKing Because the practice of calling people pedophiles just because you don't like them is very much right-coded. Alex Jones, Pizzagate, QAnon, and now the whole "groomer" thing. Left wing people generally feel like allegations of abuse of minors should come with some substantiation. Remember that Sartre quote I told you about?

"They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge... But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words."

And indeed, Musk defended himself, just as Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones did, by saying that his accusations were mere schoolyard taunts and hyperbole, not a serious accusation of a heinous crime.

Oops, quote pasted twice

@ForrestTaylor Hmm, that's true. I know the anti-trans lobby loves to throw around accusations of pedophilia, and my personal social circle also has an outgroup group of right-wingers who constantly call us pedophiles.

I do see some similar behavior from the left, usually as a criticism of libertarians. (For example.) Also I'm hesitant to call the whole gender critical movement right wing. Radical feminists are still a left-wing movement, and they still do the pedophile thing too.

@IsaacKing That's fair- both capitalist libertarians and Catholics often get it from the left, but it's usually somewhat contained to those groups, and rarely is it charged against specific people.
Gender crit is a very weird movement and I can't really speak to it as it seems really anglo (I think it mostly spawned from mumsnet and a little bit from the UK New Atheist movement, and derives a lot of its political culture from those sources filtered down.)

@ForrestTaylor Oh, the "all pastors are pedophiles" thing. Forgot about that one; I think that's actually more common than the libertarian one.

How do you resolve if he's seen as left wing at some time before 2035, but switches back to right wing again after that?
