According to Our World in Data, global solar energy generation reached 1,310 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2022, continuing a growth trend observed over the previous years. The annual solar energy generation figures for the last five years are as follows:

  • 2022: 1,310 TWh

  • 2021: 1,047 TWh

  • 2020: 846 TWh

  • 2019: 703 TWh

  • 2018: 572 TWh

This market's outcome will be determined by the next Our World in Data update on solar energy consumption for 2023. It will resolve as "Yes" if solar energy generation is reported to be 1,700 TWh or higher and "No" result if the number is less than 1,700 TWh. Should there be no data for 2023 by the end of 2025, the market will resolve as "N/A."

The primary source for resolution will be the Our World in Data report on solar energy consumption, available at https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/solar-energy-consumption?tab=chart&country=~OWID_WRL. If the report's URL changes, resolution will be based on an equivalent dataset provided by Our World in Data.
