News companies benefit from calling markets early. They'd call a win if they thought it was 99% likely. If this market was open people could still bet on the 1% chance. If the market was closed there would still be no harm waiting until the count was in to resolve.
@GCS This is something I will keep in mind going forward. The flip side of this is is is nice for the winners to get payed so they can reinvest in other markets.
