Homicide rate per 100,000 in El Salvador for year ending 2023.
I will probably use official government figures, if I cannot find a more impartial source that is publishing figures in a timely fashion.
For resolving: Data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data project (ACLED). A spreadsheet containing select columns from events is available here. This spreadsheet will be updated monthly as new data becomes available. At the time of question launch, ACLED has recorded the following fatality counts due to gang violence in previous years:
2018: 668
2019: 535
2020: 222
2021: 256
2022: 217
Between 1 June 2023 and 14 March 2024 we're at 26 fatalities.
@sanyero this is interesting data, but cannot be a full account of all homicides, since it would follow that el salvador had a homicide rate of 0.7 per 100,000 - below what official statistics state, and one of the safest countries in the world.
