Resolution criteria

This market resolves to YES if major in-person comic conventions worldwide have completely ceased to exist by January 1, 2050.

Specifically, this condition is met if for three consecutive calendar years (2047, 2048, and 2049), not a single in-person multigenre pop culture or comic book convention (commonly known as a "comic con") with an annual attendance of 10,000 or more is held anywhere in the world.

If at least one such major in-person convention (such as San Diego Comic-Con, New York Comic Con, CCXP, Comiket, or any equivalent global event) is successfully held with 10,000 or more attendees at least once between January 1, 2047, and December 31, 2049, this market will resolve to NO.

Resolutions will be determined using official announcements from major convention organizers, mainstream news reporting, or reputable industry databases tracking event attendance.

Background

Comic book and multigenre pop-culture conventions are massive global physical events. Some of the largest currently include:

  • Comiket (Tokyo, Japan): Historically the world's most attended comic-focused event, drawing up to 750,000 attendees per convention.

  • CCXP (São Paulo, Brazil): A massive multigenre pop-culture convention regularly attracting over 280,000 visitors.

  • New York Comic Con (NYCC): The largest event of its kind in North America, with attendance frequently exceeding 200,000.

  • San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC): The prominent US pop-culture convention, with attendance capped at approximately 135,000 due to venue capacity.

Traders must evaluate whether shifts in digital media, corporate marketing strategies, economic viability, or virtual event alternatives will completely phase out physical comic conventions globally before 2050.
