Resolution criteria

This market will resolve based on whether scheduled major comic con events take place or are canceled/postponed during calendar year 2027 (January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2027, UTC).

Each option resolves independently as follows:

  • Yes, all scheduled Comic-Con events worldwide will proceed without cancellation in 2027: Resolves YES if none of the benchmark major comic con events scheduled for 2027 are officially canceled or postponed out of their scheduled 2027 dates. Resolves NO if at least one benchmark event is canceled or postponed.

  • No, at least one major Comic-Con event will be canceled or postponed in 2027: Resolves YES if one or more benchmark major comic con events scheduled for 2027 are officially announced as canceled or postponed past their original dates. Resolves NO if all proceed as planned.

  • No, all Comic-Con events will be cancelled or postponed in 2027: Resolves YES only if every scheduled benchmark event across the year is canceled or postponed (such as during a global shutdown). Resolves NO if at least one benchmark event proceeds in person during 2027.

Benchmark Events: Unless amended by the market creator, the primary benchmark group of major multi-genre comic conventions includes:

  1. San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) – Comic-Con International

  2. New York Comic Con (NYCC) – New York Comic Con

  3. Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) – Emerald City Comic Con

  4. C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo) – C2E2

  5. MCM London Comic Con (Spring or Autumn editions) – MCM Comic Con

Rules & Edge Cases:

  • An event counts as "canceled or postponed" if the official organizing body publicly announces the event's cancellation, indefinite postponement, or shifting into the 2028 calendar year after dates have been officially published.

  • Converting a planned physical event entirely into an online/virtual-only format will be treated as a cancellation of the physical convention.

  • If an event is merely re-dated within calendar year 2027 prior to ticket sales, it does not count as a postponement unless explicitly labeled as a delay due to an emergency or disruption.

  • Official event websites and reputable trade reporting (e.g., Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, or Deadline) will serve as the source of truth.

Background

Comic conventions ("comic cons") are large-scale fan and pop-culture conventions featuring comics, film/TV previews, gaming, and creator panels. While "Comic-Con" is often associated specifically with Comic-Con International in San Diego (which has held contracts to host its flagship event at the San Diego Convention Center through 2027 and beyond), the phrase commonly references major commercial comic conventions worldwide, including events run by ReedPop (e.g., NYCC, ECCC, MCM) and Fan Expo HQ.

Historically, mass cancellations across comic conventions have been rare outside of widespread public health emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, though individual conventions occasionally experience venue, scheduling, or labor-related disruptions.
