Will Manifold create a rule against trading mana for bets?

NO

Seems like a restriction that would be hard to enforce. Also, as long as the bets are non-trivial, it's basically just passing the market trading bonus to traders vs creators. But I wouldn't be surprised if folks start gaming it and there need to be some restrictions.

Obviously, if Manifold asks, I'll "n/a" these markets and cancel the offers.

The current rule doesn't count?

@IsaacKing Note that trading mana for bets is not necessarily systematically harvesting / redistributing bonuses.

There's sort of a lemons problem here - paying mana for reasonable trades actually seems fine IMO. It's valuable for both parties and makes Manifold better by getting more liquidity for markets / adding information.

But if folks are just betting 1 mana for the bonus, that seems problematic since the information / liquidity you're adding is trivial / non-existent.

e.g., what if I traded a small amount of mana for traders to make large bets on my markets? That seems like clearly beneficial behavior for Manifold.

@SG should we interpret this as a blanket rule against trading mana for bets? Or was it the systematic nature of that instance that was contra policy?

Isn't that what ads are trying to do

@Dreamingpast I think it's directionally similar
