The Far Out Initiative is trying to "precision-breed" animals with the FAAH-OUT pseudo-gene. This gene was discovered in a woman in Scotland who was incapable of feeling physical or psychological suffering. The initiative was funded by an ACX Grant.
To resolve YES, there should be animals that are bred or genetically engineered (not necessarily by the Far Out Initiative) to reduce or eliminate their suffering, and meat from these animals should be legally sold in at least one country.
The presence of a gene is not the expression of a gene, so how would they even know the phenotype of the resulting animal, which is very different than the genotype in other words how did they confirm the animal has no pain when the animal can’t answer any questions. The lack of pain is a phenotype.
@BTE True enough. I would resolve YES if an organization starts selling meat from animals that are genetically modified such that they're >50% likely to feel less suffering than a regular animal. I figure that if the probable lack of suffering is convincing enough that they can start selling the meat, it'll probably be pretty unambiguous, but if there's debate I can resolve to a poll
