Resolution criteria
This market resolves to the individual who next takes the official oath of office or is formally seated as the Los Angeles City Councilmember representing Council District 4 (CD 4) following incumbent Nithya Raman.
Trigger: This market resolves when a person other than Nithya Raman officially assumes office as the CD 4 Councilmember, whether by special election, regular municipal election (scheduled for 2028), or appointment by the Los Angeles City Council to fill a vacancy.
Verification: Resolution will be determined using official records from the Los Angeles City Clerk Election Division or official Los Angeles City Council meeting records and roster announcements.
Background
Los Angeles City Council District 4 covers parts of the central San Fernando Valley, Hollywood Hills, Los Feliz, and surrounding neighborhoods. The seat has been held by Nithya Raman since December 2020, following her re-election in 2024 to a term ending in December 2028.
Speculation around the future of the seat intensified during Raman's 2026 campaign for Mayor of Los Angeles. If the incumbent vacates the seat early, the Los Angeles City Council can appoint an interim representative or schedule a special election. Potential contenders previously discussed by local political observers include Los Angeles Unified School Board member Nick Melvoin, California State Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, California State Senator Henry Stern, TV host and activist Adam Conover, and deputy city attorney Ethan Weaver (who challenged Raman in the 2024 primary).
I'll move the date if the seat is still open.
