@Gigacasting I saw your comment yesterday about nobody but Zelenskyy even mattering on the list of finalists. Xi matters many degrees of magnitude more than Zelenskyy in every respect, including when it comes to the future of Ukraine. Prior to the start of the war China was by far the largest investor in Ukraine. The only reason Xi isn’t the overwhelming favorite is Western bias.
The shortlist has been announced and Xi Jinping is on it. Selection to be announced tomorrow on the TODAY Show. https://thehill.com/homenews/media/3762235-heres-who-is-on-times-2022-person-of-the-year-shortlist/
@BTE I think the Time person of the year will almost certainly be something related to Russia-Ukraine. Zelensky (60%), "People of Ukraine" (35%), or Putin (<5%). Unless Xi Jinping does something the world's attention to the extent that the Ukraine-Russia conflict has (the only plausible thing would be to invade Taiwan), I don't see how he could ever win this.
@FRCassarino Xi Jinping has more influence over what is going on in Russia and Ukraine than is appreciated. He is the most likely person to broker a peace deal, particularly once secure in his authority for another 5 years.
@BTE I’m with you on the substance, but I know what Time 100 lists usually reward, and I’m very confident that they’ll go for the obvious choice this year.
