I don't really see a mechanism to do this without exposing all the board of directors to quite a lot of legal liability.

Though I did just realize it is EOY 2025 rather tan 2024, which makes it a bit more likely.
@BTE I wouldn't consider dissolution by the state of california to be openai abandoning the nonprofit structure - both because that would not be openai's choice which abandoning implies, and because all of openai's assets would be required to remain with a nonprofit.
@tr The assets already do not remain with the nonprofit. They assign all of the IP to the for profit company, it is not at all owned by the nonprofit. The nonprofit is simply a governance mechanism to ensure the board of directors are not primarily motivated by profit.
@BTE As I understand it, the nonprofit’s ownership stake and control of the for profit would be required to remain with a nonprofit even if the current nonprofit was dissolved.
