  • Under $25,000 inflation adjusted to 2023 prices using the US CPI-U (this will probably mean a Jan 1 2030 price of about $28,000-$30,000 in contemporaneous dollars)

  • after any government incentives are applied

  • must have four doors--two in the front and two in the back (so no Mini Cooper SE)

  • must go for at least 200mi (2023 mini cooper also fails this one)

  • must be road-legal

  • must be readily available, with consumers actually purchasing cars, so at least 10,000 year-to-date purchases, or at least 2,500 purchases in the latest quarter

  • new vehicles only

  • top speed at least 65 mph

Hasn't this already happened? The Chevy Bolt has 4 doors, is EPA-rated at 247 miles, starts at $27,800k, and is eligible for a $7500 tax credit. It's effective price is thus about $20,300.

@Steelbiceps I need a bit more convincing. The marketing on their website says "BOLT EV AND BOLT EUV MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR UP TO $7,500 Clean Vehicle Federal Tax Credit".

I'd want to know at least one consumer is not just "may be eligible" but actually is eligible. Could you maybe post a screenshot of some sort of calculator, like their "build and buy" option, that shows some consumer somewhere actually is eligible for the offer?

They do seem to be meeting the volume requirement I set, so confirmation of the sale price availability is the only outstanding point.
