NBA bans Jontay Porter for life after investigation reveals Raptors forward violated league gambling rules

I mean.. you have people betting the under on prop bets for a specific Raptors player - both points and other stats like rebounds, assists, and made 3 pointers, and that same player withdrawing from multiple games due to injury. To the point where this was the most profitable bet on e.g. draftkings multiple nights in a row.

Does that not qualify as a major scandal?

@KevinBurke If I can be directed to multiple major news outlets characterizing an event/transaction/finding as a scandal and evidence supporting the charge is corroborated - I'll close this out.

So if the Raptors case meets the above criteria - let me know. Thanks

@that_one_guy I am sure more info will come out but these facts are fairly damning https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/39808900/nba-eyes-raptors-jontay-porter-betting-issues

@KevinBurke huh.... interesting. Let me know if they confirm or he acknowledges. Thanks

I bet there will be at least one scandal..

So this is about point shaving specifically, not all forms of match fixing or gambling related corruption in sport more broadly (e.g. spot fixing)?

predicted YES

@BDStraw I like your question and I thought about broadening the category but I'm going to leave it as is. Didn't want to pull in boxing, horse racing, chess, etc. Mainly thinking about basketball, football, baseball, hockey, soccer and maybe one or two others.

@that_one_guy Got it. The other question of course is what defines "major". I think your choice to limit to point shaving actually will take out a good chunk of grey area. Like with ITF tennis or one of the domestic cricket tournaments across the world.

predicted YES

@BDStraw let's say major would be defined as professional or NCAA division I
