This is a commitment device for me to not do that.

I will bet no once after creating this market and then i won't bet anymore.

Mandatory ai summary:

  • Update 2025-05-02 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): * Buying non-vegan items for others counts towards a YES resolution if the creator uses their own money. It does not count if they use the recipient's money.

    • The market will resolve YES only if the creator knowingly eats or buys something non-vegan at the time of the action. Finding out later that something consumed or purchased was non-vegan does not count towards a YES resolution.

  • Update 2025-05-04 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The creator clarified their interpretation of non-vegan for this market:

    • Products involving animal testing currently count as non-vegan (would resolve YES).

    • Incidental insect fragments (e.g., in flour) currently do not count as non-vegan.

    • Almonds (regarding bee transport for pollination) currently do not count as non-vegan, although the creator may change their mind after further research.

    • Whether vaccines (e.g., egg-based) count depends on the creator's assessment of them being non-vegan at the time they might consider getting one.

The creator bases their definition on what they believe contributes too much to animal harm at the time of the potential action. These interpretations may update.

How far do you plan on taking the definition of "vegan"?
For example, would egg based or mammalian cell based flu vaccine be non vegan?
What about anything involving animal testing?
I'm assuming things like incidental insect fragments in flour would not count?
How about things like almonds, where bees have to be transported in for pollination?

@GleamingRhino

For example, would egg based or mammalian cell based flu vaccine be non vegan?

Im not really sure since i havent looked into what that exactly is yet but it will depend on if i think its bad at the time (if i want to get such a vaccine i'll first see if i think it's ok)

What about anything involving animal testing

This would count as non vegan

I'm assuming things like incidental insect fragments in flour would not count?

nope they wouldn't count

How about things like almonds, where bees have to be transported in for pollination?

I think this wouldn't count unless i look into it and change my mind.

These answers may update over time. Its based on what i think is contributing to animal harm too much at the time.

What if you buy something for someone else?

Also re: knowledge, if you didn’t know at the time but find out later, is that retroactive?

@GleamingRhino

What if you buy something for someone else?

I'd say buying for someone else only counts if I'm using my own money and not theirs.

Also re: knowledge, if you didn’t know at the time but find out later, is that retroactive?

I will only resolve yes if i knowingly buy or eat something non vegan. Finding it later doesn't count.
