Source: The "Domestic Opening" number listed on BoxOfficeMojo for "Wicked" (2024).
This market will close for trading on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11AM PT. It will resolve when the actuals are posted (probably the following Monday or Tuesday).
I will use the "Domestic Opening" listed on BoxOfficeMojo. Note that this is typically the 3-day weekend (FSS) plus any previews.
For example, the "Domestic Opening" for "Wonka" (2023) was $39,005,880. This is the equivalent number I will use.
@traders it was close! but all resolve yes as of the actual posting today: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt1262426/?ref_=bo_se_r_1. thank you for trading!
@noney Uh imo the characters were all terrible, terrible, shallow, petty, childish, stupid people that didn't make sensible decisions at any point. spoiler-ish: most characters built up to be decent ended up being cartoonishly evil. people trying to redeem themselves by doing a single thing right did 10 terrible things the next instant. felt like a very anti-human movie with a very depressing message. treated looks to be equal to social status ++, like it's a magic spell that makes you be able to do literally anything (to a more ridiculous extent than one would expect from that description). everyone is naturally hilariously racist / speciest (worse when the animals have human-intelligence and speech) / ableist / ugly-ist / hyper-comformist. some characters go from being lame to supposedly seen as extremely respectable and back with no apparent consistency.
I guess this is bc the book / play are like that, and i'd never seen/read those. I'm not a fan of musicals either but i can't fault them for that and the singing at some points is very good. the cast is pretty good and the cinematography and all that is quite good too. so ig i'm really saying i didn't like the plot and characters and themes i think, which might be the book's fault
