This market resolves to YES if the U.S. Senate holds a floor vote (either procedural or final passage) on a bill specifically addressing women's reproductive rights before June 10, 2025.

Qualifying bills must substantively address one or more of the following:

  • Abortion access or restrictions

  • Contraception access

  • Maternal healthcare

  • Reproductive healthcare funding

The vote must be officially recorded in Senate records. Committee votes do not qualify.

Resolution will be based on official Senate records and reliable news coverage of Senate proceedings.

Background

Since the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision in 2022 overturned Roe v. Wade, there has been significant legislative activity around reproductive rights at both state and federal levels. The U.S. Senate has considered several bills related to reproductive rights in recent sessions, including the Women's Health Protection Act, which aimed to codify abortion rights but failed to pass.

The 119th Congress (2025-2027) began its session in January 2025, with new legislative priorities and potentially different party control compared to the previous Congress. Senate Bill 916, introduced on March 10, 2025, addresses the treatment of pregnant and postpartum women but is currently in committee.

Resolution Criteria

This market resolves to YES if the U.S. Senate holds a floor vote on a bill that substantively addresses at least one of the following areas before June 10, 2025:

  • Abortion access or restrictions

  • Contraception access

  • Maternal healthcare

  • Reproductive healthcare funding

For a YES resolution:

  • The vote must be an official floor vote in the full Senate

  • The vote can be either procedural (such as cloture votes or motions to proceed) or on final passage

  • The vote must be officially recorded in Senate records

  • The bill must substantively address women's reproductive rights as defined above

The market resolves to NO if:

  • No qualifying vote occurs before June 10, 2025

  • Votes only occur in Senate committees but not on the Senate floor

  • Votes occur on bills that do not substantively address the qualifying topics

Resolution will be based on official Senate records and reliable news coverage of Senate proceedings.

Considerations

  • The Senate's legislative calendar and priorities can change rapidly in response to political developments, court decisions, or public pressure

  • Election years (like 2024) often affect legislative schedules and priorities

  • Procedural votes (like cloture) on reproductive rights bills qualify for this market even if the bill never receives a final passage vote
