Will any holders of the "It's really me!" badge also be Trustworthy-ish by the end of 2023?

Resolved
NO

This market resolves as YES upon any holder of an "It's really me!" badge also holding a Trustworthy-ish badge at any time between market creation (August 6, 2023) and December 31, 2023 (inclusive.)

The badge holder in question must simultaneously hold an "It's really me!" bage and a Trustworthy-ish badge that was granted legitimately (as opposed to being granted through hacking, technical issues on the site, etc.) The only exception is if the "It's really me!" badge is changed to also confer the powers of a Trustworthy-ish badge, i.e. if verified users are once again considered Trustworthy-ish by default - that will cause the market to resolve as YES.

Additional context

Users with an "It's really me!" badge as of market creation include, but are not limited to: Eliezer Yudkowsky, Scott Alexander, Aella, Zvi Mowshowitz, CGP Grey, Lex Fridman, Robert Wiblin, Patrick McKenzie, and SneakySly/Anthony Giovannetti.

Fine print

If the badge system is removed entirely before the end of 2023, and there are no plans to re-implement it before the end of the year, this market resolves as N/A.

If the badge system is kept, but the "It's really me!" badge is not, and there are no plans to re-implement it before the end of the year, this market resolves as N/A. It also resolves as N/A if the badge system is kept, but the Trustworthy-ish one is not.

If the criteria by which either badge is assigned change significantly before the end of the year, this market resolves as N/A. I would consider it a significant change if:

  • The "It's really me!" badge is no longer awarded on the basis of protecting "public-ish" figured from impersonation.

  • The Trustworthy-ish badge is no longer awarded on the basis of positive contributions to the community and a history of resolving markets correctly & fairly.

If more types of badges are added to the badge system, they don't affect the resolution of this market.

"A rose by any other name" clause: A change to the names of the badges - e.g. "It's really me!" --> "Verified" or "Trustworthy. ish." --> "Trustworthy" - does not affect the resolution of this market, as long as the badges are awarded for the same criteria. The visual appearance of the badges can change as well - to ribbons, achievements, or whatever else Manifold decides on - and that also will not affect the resolution of this market. In the event of the badges changing name or form, this market's title and description will update to reflect the new names/forms. [NOTE: The reason this clause is titled is that I plan on using it as shorthand for "name changes and other surface-level changes don't affect resolution" in other markets that I create.]

This market resolves as YES if any user simultaneously holds both badges, regardless of if those badges are later removed - either from the individual user, or from the entire site. The only exception is a badge being removed because it was granted in error - though if this happens, hopefully there won't be a misresolution, since I do want to wait on official confirmation that a user is indeed meant to be Trustworthy-ish/verified before resolving.

This market resolves as YES regardless of the order in which the badges were granted - a user with an "It's really me!" badge receiving a Trustworthy-ish badge and a user with a Trustworthy-ish badge receiving an "It's really me!" badge both cause this market to resolve as YES.

The timezone used to determine when 2023 ends and 2024 begins is Pacific Time, since it's the time zone Manifold HQ is located in (and the time zone I'll be living in later this year.)

Eliza just got a new badge MVP for herself only, now she is the first one to get two badges?

@SavioMak Just for the sake of clarity for anyone who reads that, *himself

(And I was just as surprised as you.)

@SavioMak similar, Genzy now has both trustworthy and manifold staff badge

@SneakySly Now has the Trustworthy-ish (Moderator) badge but not the "It's really me" (verified) badge. Any ideas what happened? I bet there's an implementation issue where each user can only have one badge

predictedYES

@Shump I noticed that a while back! I don't know why that happened.

predictedNO

@Shump The exact same thing happened to Nathan Young today! I took it as evidence the staff will not give anyone both badges, and bet No accordingly.

That makes me pretty confident that it's an implementation issue. Moderator is "stronger", and it's not like these people became not real all of a sudden

@SavioMak Agreed.

predictedYES

@SneakySly I changed my mind after seeing Eliza with 2 badges btw, seems like the Manifold team is just intentionally not giving two badges, the system clearly supports it.

predictedYES

@SavioMak we knew this bc of the creator badge tho, right? I think it makes sense not to clutter badges. already Eliza will have 3 on any market they make

predictedYES

@Stralor I was mentally counting creator badge as a different type of unique thingy, in retrospect that was dumb.

For that to happen, they’d have to be fairly active for a good length of time. Have any of them been creating more questions lately?

@TamarSpoerri Aella and SneakySly have been making new questions semi-regularly, but a lot of the others are pretty inactive, e.g. Scott Alexander hasn't made a new question in nearly six months.
