Donating mana is important to me personally, but it's not the main reason I care about Manifold.
Being able to donate mana is the main reason I care about Manifold.

Note: I am aware that selection bias is a major concern for a poll like this. I suspect if you polled random community members, you might get substantially different results.
To answer a slightly different question: I finally created an account because I realized that I could subsidize the market whose accuracy I cared about (pandemic probability). Then I realized the site’s gamification is really good and got sucked in.
I intend to keep adding liquidity to things, but don’t really think about the donation option.
The main draw for me is the mental exercise. Making mana by betting is like a game, it's fun! Being able to donate to causes I care about is great, but I've been drawn to websites to make fake money that are much less entertaining. Still, I believe I'll be more likely to leave, to some extent, if/while mana has less real world impact, and I do care about that impact.
@TylerColeman Same for me. This might not be common, but I view real money the same. I've got passive investments which will keep growing, and I will increase such investments for long-term future, but other than that, the real impact of money on my day to day life is the flexibility to do something I want to do. In the end, most of my expenditures are on either food or on travel stuff. Although Ṁ is fictional, its tethering to real-life impact definitely helped provide some sort of credibility(?) when I first started out here.
