Resolution Criteria

This market will resolve "Yes" if the PC release of GTA VI Online is generally playable on Linux.

"Generally playable" means GTA VI Online runs with minimal tinkering. Requiring Proton and some launch variables would be considered generally playable, having to use a windows VM would not.

This market resolves purely on playability, not on messaging from Rockstar. For example, if Rockstar says GTA VI Online does not officially support Linux, but the game is easily playable through Proton, this market will resolve yes.

If GTA VI is exclusively playable on specific hardware (e.g. a Steam Deck) or a specific distro (e.g. Steam OS), this market will resolve no.

This market only applies to the online, PC version of GTA VI. If no online or PC version is released, this market will resolve N/A.

Resolution Date

The most subjective part of this market is when to resolve. I can imagine resolving in a few days, if GTA VI Online miraculously works on Proton very soon after release. I can also imagine resolving in a few months, if Valve (or credible reporters) state they are working with Rockstar to achieve general Linux compatibility soon-ish after release. Most likely, it will be somewhere in between these two examples (a week or two maybe?). I will try my best to be fair!

Background

In September 2024, Rockstar Games integrated BattlEye anti-cheat software into Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) Online, which resulted in the game becoming unplayable on Linux-based systems, including the Steam Deck.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding a PC release or support for Linux-based systems.
