Resolution criteria
This market will immediately resolve to YES if Apple ceases to offer the entry-level MacBook Neo 256GB storage configuration (priced at $599 USD) for purchase through its official website (apple.com) or authorized retail channels before 11:59 PM ET on December 31, 2026. In order to resolve YES, the $599 must be removed from Apple’s website as an available option. Backorder and “Not Available” statuses when attempting to order do not count as discontinuation. The model must no longer be listed, in the same way that the $599 Mac mini M4 configuration was removed from the store entirely.
This market also resolves YES if the price of the cheapest MacBook Neo model increases beyond $599 MSRP for a new retail unit in the US on Apple’s website. If a new, cheaper model takes the place of an increased-price current base model Neo at $599 or less that is insufficient to resolve YES.
The market will resolve to NO if the $599 SKU remains available for purchase through Apple's official storefront at the end of this period. If Apple replaces the MacBook Neo with a successor model that also features a $599 entry-level configuration without first discontinuing the current $599 model and if the model remains listed on Apple’s website on December 31st, 2026, this market resolves to NO.
Resolution will be verified by checking the official Apple Store website's MacBook laptop lineup page (https://www.apple.com/mac/buy/).
Background
The MacBook Neo was introduced by Apple in March 2026 as an entry-level, budget-friendly laptop positioned below the MacBook Air. It is the first Mac to be powered by an A-series chip (A18 Pro) rather than an M-series chip. The device launched with a starting price of $599 for a 256GB model.
As of May 2026, reports have surfaced regarding potential supply chain and component cost pressures that may lead Apple to discontinue the base 256GB storage configuration, which would effectively raise the entry price of the MacBook Neo line.
Update 2026-05-08 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): If any MacBook Neo is available for $599 MSRP on Apple's retail website, it counts as a $599 Neo regardless of specs. Education or refurbished discounts do not count toward this criteria.
