Apple is expected to announce the release of a second generation of AirPods Max at their September event. Rumors thus far have speculated that Apple will only include an updated H2 chip in this new device. However, the H1 chip was released in 2020 and H2 in 2022. A refresh for the H2 chip was included in the newest AirPods Pro model in 2023. Given the desire to revitalize the AirPods Max in a now very crowded market of mid-tier premium wireless headphones it seems like an opportune time to rebrand the chip as H3 with some snazzy new technology upgrades.
