Manifold just introduced a new "Stock" market type. It seems to be nearly functionally equivalent to the old method of creating a regular YES/NO market and leaving it open indefinitely. This market is my test of the new market type.
BUY if you like the new "Stock" market type, and SELL if you like the old method better.

Not sure I really like either, owning a stock seems largely pointless to me as I don't really have any reason to own it except to later sell it and there's no real-world thing it's tied to beyond a suggestion from the creator.
It seems to me like stocks will "float" a lot of the time.
I'll need to see how this works out in practice I guess... I still bet against stocks of course
@Xe Ngl most real stocks work about the same way(no payouts), and they make real cash, so I think it might work
@Paulake But both versions of Manifold stock work absolutely nothing like IRL stock. The most obvious difference is that there's a cap on how valuable they can be. A single share can't be worth more than 1 mana, whereas shares of real stocks can increase in price without bound. There's also the difference that you aren't actually buying and selling a stock at all here - you are buying either YES or NO shares, and the price of each type is based not just on how many have been bought or sold at a given price, but also on how many of the opposing type of shares have been bought or sold.
