Coefficient Giving is the grantmaker and advisor formerly known as Open Philanthropy; it announced the name change in November 2025. It recommends grants across global health, farm animal welfare, biosecurity, AI safety and governance, and other areas, historically funded mainly by Good Ventures (the foundation of Dustin Moskovitz and Cari Tuna) and increasingly by other donors through its cause-specific funds.

Coefficient reported directing about $650 million in grants in 2024 and over $1 billion in 2025 (its largest year, up more than 50% year on year), and over $5 billion since 2014. Funding directed from donors other than Good Ventures rose from over $100 million in 2024 to over $200 million in 2025. For 2026 it says it aims to significantly scale its funding again and to prepare for even larger growth in 2027 and 2028.

Coefficient has said it is weighing whether to advise Good Ventures - which is approaching a pace consistent with spending down in its founders' lifetimes - to spend significantly faster given shortening AI timelines, and that a key input is whether it can find opportunities that cost-effectively and rapidly absorb the available capital. Grants drawing on limited Good Ventures capacity face a higher bar. In December 2025 it set aside $175 million for GiveWell-recommended opportunities in 2026, which it expected to be "a little over 10%" of its 2026

giving - implying a planned 2026 total of roughly $1.5 to $1.75 billion.

The $1.5 billion threshold sits near the low end of that implied plan and is about 50% above 2025. It is a proxy for whether Coefficient can keep scaling deployment - whether it can find and vet enough opportunities at its bar to absorb the capital it intends to move.

Resolves 'yes' if Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy) reports directing/recommending at least US $1.5 billion (nominal) in grants during calendar year 2026 (1 January–31 December 2026); otherwise 'no'.
