Gosh, that happened fast! I thought they'd wait until they had a new deputy leader of the Labour Party.
I guess they've known for a while that Rayner was on the ropes, so they'll have been thinking about plans for handling it. To give them credit, I suppose it does look much more professional and organised to immediately fill the role, and with somebody who's probably more on-board with Starmer's politics than Rayner was.
And when they do get a new deputy leader of the Labour Party, it might be a bit more of a protest candidate, so to have preemptively broken the link between deputy leader and deputy PM might keep their options more open for sidelining the new deputy leader if they think they have to.
@Fion I’d rather a hard limit on resolution, if we get to one year with no replacement named then I’ll resolve N/A. Or all NO? Can’t remember if the latter is an option.
@Noit if all NO isn't an option, I think you should just create an option for something like "office vacant" and explain that you'll resolve to that if the position hasn't been filled by whatever deadline you want to set.
I never like NA because it reverses gains from correcting the market in the interim. I also think it's a genuinely interesting possibility that the role will be left vacant, and I'd like to know the probability of it. (I expect it's small, but I dunno.)
