Background

Tim Walz is the 41st governor of Minnesota, serving since 2019. He was the Democratic nominee for vice president in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, but their ticket was defeated by Republican nominees Donald Trump and JD Vance. On September 16, 2025, Walz announced his candidacy for a third term as governor. As of December 29, 2025, a collection of Minnesota House and Senate Republicans called for the resignation of Governor Tim Walz after increased scrutiny into the state's fraud issues.
