Background
Kentucky holds its gubernatorial elections in off-years preceding U.S. presidential election years. Incumbent Democratic Governor Andy Beshear was reelected in November 2023, defeating Republican Daniel Cameron. Under Section 71 of the Kentucky Constitution, governors are limited to two consecutive terms, making Beshear term-limited and ineligible to seek a third consecutive term in 2027. Consequently, the 2027 race will feature an open seat.
