If the only policy option I have is a button that shutters all U.S. regulators, I'd probably still hit it. Obviously there is a theoretical argument for regulation, but it's not clear to me that organizations like the SEC or FDA are worth keeping in practice. The explicit legislation that would have to be passed in order to provide the essential controls on e.g. food quality would probably end up being better than the growth wrecking amalgamations that currently exist (which is not a high bar).

FWIW you were definitely right @MartinRandall that Sam was silly to straw man my stated contempt for U.S. regulators out that far. Someone who hates their government isn't usually saying that they should have none. It's just in this case the straw man happened to be true lol.

@DeanValentine That's fair. I have no excuse except that I'd been up all night playing music with my band and was tired the next day when I wrote my reply. For that I'm sorry.

@DeanValentine It's mind boggling to me that you'd hit that switch but that's another discussion (and one I'm willing to have over Discord if you want to pursue it 👍 ).

@DeanValentine that is an interesting hypothetical! I wouldn't press such a button but I would surely wish I had a better button.
