Trump has recently issued an executive order telling the HHS to, among other things, "Assess the prevalence of and threat posed by the prescription of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, stimulants, and weight-loss drugs[.]" The Trump administration has been taking a very "shoot first and ask questions later" kind of approach to most things they've been doing, and they seem to be targeting mental health care sometime soon. On top of this, there is still an ongoing adderall shortage in the United States — one that's been ongoing since October of 2022.

I am prescribed Adderall for lifelong ADHD. Last year, I had a period of roughly 3 weeks where I was unable to get my medication. Will there be a period of time where, regardless of reason, I'm unable to access my medications for 30 consecutive days or more? This includes being un-diagnosed, Adderall being restricted so I'm unable to get it, or any other reason.

  • Update 2025-02-14 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Pharmacy Inventory Focus:

    • The outcome will be based on whether the pharmacy has Adderall available.

    • The individual’s efforts to redirect their prescription (e.g., contacting a doctor to send the prescription to another pharmacy) do not affect the resolution outcome.

  • Update 2025-02-15 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): Generic and Name Brand Clarification

    • Both generic and name brand formulations are treated the same.

Forced Medication Switch Scenario

  • In the event of a forced switch to a different medication, this scenario may be resolved as N/A since it does not align with the core concept of the question.

I just got fired. I'm N/Aing this market, as it can no longer predict the question it intended to.

That SOB I take some of these kinds of medication. Without them I would have died year ago

On a lighter note many people by medication through the internet from Canada 🇨🇦 because it's significantly cheaper. I will send my phone number to you and see if we can find a way. If necessary I can pick it up and mail it to you. I'm in Toronto Ont. Can find just about anything here

No worries my friend.

Donald Dump and his Dumpsters have caused a rifft between us. but we the people can't be, won't be parted, 2 years and the liberals will have the house again.

@DSalomon this is actually unrelated to the trump firings, but i do appreciate the sentiment!

@Marnix I didn't think that, I was more thinking your medication was one the has been cut off by that dude Kennedy, I know antidepressants where on the list.

Let me know if you would like any assistance, truly many people order there medication from here and have them shipped down, the cost is significantly cheaper.

I think...

After the ban on some antidepressants may be just the beginning, but also think will end up in court, I would ask Fr to double prescription for a few months just in case.

I have had same Dr for 25 years so he would do it thankfully.

I take 26 pills a day, can't imagine that happening but who knows,

A few clarifications:

What defines access in this case? For example, if generic is not available but brand name is. However, brand name would be prohibitively expensive. Would this be unable to access?

What about if adderall had supply issues and your prescriber changed to a different med, which was then easily accessed?

For what it’s worth, my personal opinion is that the new guidance is unlikely to have any meaningful effects on supply.

@GleamingRhino Generic/name brand distinction does not matter.

I'm actually not sure how I'd resolve I'm forced to switch to something else. It should technically be yes, but it doesn't really feel like it's in the spirit of the question. I may N/A in that scenario.

Would something not-Trump-related like "not bringing medication with you while traveling" or "had a depressive spell, didn't pick up prescription" also count?

@cherrvak Sorta, yeah. Something like me losing health coverage and not being able to get am appointment would resolve this yes, for example. But this is going to be determined by if the pharmacy has them available, NOT necessarily me going and physically getting them. (And I can always contact my doctor to get them to send my prescription to another pharmacy if need be).

@Marnix Important to remember that a month is a Long time — 3 weeks is the longest I've ever gone, and the longest I usually wait is maybe a few days to a week!
