The company was one of those that followed the "Silicon Valley" model where you never care about making a profit, just about getting more customers. I always ran my business the opposite way - you make decisions based upon how profitable they are, not based upon whether they will bring in a lot of low-value users. Had I not been scammed, my business would actually have earned more than twitter did before it was bought by Musk.
That Musk was able to salvage 35% of the company's value is amazing. Not that Musk is a good leader - his poor behavior reduces the valuation of companies - but he did make the one good decision to lay off a lot of people who weren't contributing, particularly because AI can now take over much of their work.
