Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to YES if, in the official canonical One Piece manga written by Eiichiro Oda, Luffy achieves or uses a transformation explicitly named "Gear 6", "Gear Sixth", or "Gear VI" (or the Japanese equivalent such as ギア6 / ギアセクス / ギア シックス) before the series officially concludes.
If the One Piece manga ends without Luffy ever using a transformation officially designated as "Gear 6" (or its equivalents), this market will resolve to NO.
Resolution Details:
Source of Truth: Official Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump releases and/or official One Piece manga volume tankōbon. Anime-only episodes, non-canon movies, video games, promotional materials, or fan works do not count toward a YES resolution.
Naming Requirement: The form must be explicitly labeled or referred to as "Gear 6" (or "Gear Sixth" / "Gear VI" / "Gear 6th") by Luffy, the narrator, or another canon character. Variations of Gear 5 (e.g., new techniques or different states within the Gear 5 form) or entirely new power-ups (such as pure Haki evolutions or "Nika" forms) will not trigger a YES resolution unless they are explicitly named "Gear 6".
Timing: The market will resolve to YES immediately upon the official scan/chapter release of the manga showing "Gear 6." It will resolve to NO if the final chapter of the manga is published without the form appearing.
Background
When Monkey D. Luffy unlocked "Gear 5" during the Wano Country Arc, he famously proclaimed it to be his "peak". For a long time, the general consensus among readers was that Gear 5 represented the absolute pinnacle of his Devil Fruit awakening, allowing him to fight with total freedom.
However, as One Piece progresses through its Final Saga (including the Elbaf Arc), Luffy has encountered incredibly powerful adversaries like Nerona Imu. This has reignited debate within the community. Some fans theorize that Luffy will need to push past his "peak" to unlock a literal "Gear 6" to achieve victory, while others argue that his final progression will focus strictly on mastering Haki or refining the existing limits of Gear 5. This market tracks whether Eiichiro Oda will canonize a sixth Gear before the manga concludes.
