Houston, the largest city in Texas, has Interstate Highways directly connecting the next 5 largest cities with the notable exception of the capital, Austin. To reach Austin one takes US Highway 290, which is partly (not entirely) built to interstate standards.

In 2011, two US representatives asked for US 290 to be designated a spur of Interstate 10. Possible numbers could include 210, 310, or 510.
