As a large-class mission, we can expect that JUICE will be given a new name, perhaps of a person, object or mythical figure.

If the name remains JUICE, this will resolve to answer JUICE

Genuinely sorry for being annoying here. But since this hadn’t yet resolved I couldn’t help but notice Wikipedia lists the mission as "(Juice, formerly JUICE)", citing this https://www.planetary.org/space-missions/juice:

Is it JUICE or Juice?

Juice was originally JUICE, a complicated acronym for JUpiter ICy moons Explorer. ESA has since simplified the name to Juice, the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer.

(Obv feel free to resolve JUICE here if this isn't persuasive. I had to try :))

I mean I respect the hustle but imo it was "juice" from the start: it was pronounced as a word, not as an acronym, and it's also clearly a backronym from the common word "juice" as the abbreviation doesn't actually match the words it stands for very well.

Yeah, I appreciate Johnny coming with good spirit because I think that's just lawyering. It wouldn't be at all fair to other bettors and arguably they are the same name

Fair lol

Even after launch, NASA calls it JUICE. The site shows alternate names of:

56176, JUICE, and JUpiterICymoonsExplorer(JUICE).

@JoshuaWilkes Will this resolve now or do you think they'll change the name later on in the mission?

@Mqrius Oh this is a recent market. Well I still don't think they'll change it :)

@Mqrius I think they'll probably make it clear. If there's never any announcement I won't wait until 31 to resolve 😃

@Mqrius when I wrote the question I was clearly under the impression this is fairly normal for ESA, but actually the only example I just found is XMM Newton

@JoshuaWilkes Does it seem reasonable to resolve this yet? Not sure when you'd expect an announcement.

@Mqrius I'll wait a good while yet ;)

@Mqrius I have set the close date to Aug 24 which is when it will make its first fly-by of Earth. I think if not by then it's enough.
