Background
The U.S. Treasury Department has authority over currency design changes, which typically involve extensive planning and approval processes. Historical changes to currency portraits have been rare and usually part of broader redesign initiatives focused on security features or cultural representation, such as the planned (but delayed) addition of Harriet Tubman to the $20 bill.
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve YES if Donald Trump's portrait appears on any denomination of official U.S. currency (including Federal Reserve Notes, coins, or commemorative currency officially issued by the U.S. Treasury or U.S. Mint) before December 2028. The portrait must be in circulation or officially released to the public, not merely announced or planned.
Market resolves NO if:
Trump's image appears only on commemorative items not officially issued by the U.S. Treasury or U.S. Mint
Trump's image appears only on privately-issued currency or tokens
No such currency featuring Trump is released before December 2028
Considerations
Currency design changes are historically infrequent and typically take many years to implement. The most recent major portrait change announcement (Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill) was made in 2016 but has not yet been implemented as of 2024. Additionally, no living person has ever been featured on U.S. currency, as this has been prohibited by law since 1866.
Market resolves NO if:
Trump's image appears only on commemorative items not officially issued by the U.S. Treasury or U.S. Mint
Trump's image appears only on privately-issued currency or tokens
No such currency featuring Trump is released before December 2028
Would I be correct in thinking this excludes him making trump coin an official US currency?
