Iceland is part of the European Economic Area, European Free Trade Association, and Schengen Agreement. An application to join the European Union was made in 2009, but negotiations fell silent in 2013. Last year a proposal was made in the Alþing to hold a referendum in 2023 on whether to restart negotiations.
This market resolves YES if the referendum is held and results in a vote to proceed with the process to join the EU. Otherwise it resolves NO.
In 2016 an poll showed significantly more opposition than support for joining the EU.

@NcyRocks What happened to contacting the market creator and waiting a bit before resolving by moderator? It was closed for all of 16 hours. (Not that I disagree with the resolution.)
@Imuli My apologies - I saw that your last bet was 7 months ago (on manifold-tools.vercel.app) and assumed you were inactive. The official resolution policy has been in limbo for a while, so with how many markets we have to get through that closed in the last day or two, I decided that markets with inactive creators and clear resolutions should just be resolved (other mods have been doing the same). This had the unfortunate effect that creators that are active but have stopped betting, like you, will have mods coming in and resolving their markets without any notice. Sorry about that! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to make it up to you.
