Resolution criteria

This market resolves to "YES" if Sam Altman, acting in his individual capacity or through an entity he controls, initiates formal legal action (files a lawsuit or complaint) against Anthropic PBC or its affiliates in a court of law between May 9, 2026, and August 9, 2026.

Resolution will be based on credible reporting from major news outlets (e.g., Reuters, Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal) or official court docket entries confirming the filing of a case. If no such action is initiated by 11:59 PM ET on August 9, 2026, the market resolves to "NO."

Background

Sam Altman is the CEO of OpenAI. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, including Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei. Both companies are major players in the development of large language models and artificial general intelligence. While there have been ongoing industry tensions regarding competition, safety, and talent acquisition, there is no public record of ongoing litigation between Altman and Anthropic as of May 2026.
