This question was inspired by a wager made in the Vergecast episode “Sonos loses to Google, and Threads takes on Twitter” at around the 1:03:30 timestamp. Chris Welch claimed that Apple will eventually release a soundbar. Nilay Patel claimed that Apple would release a cheap Vision Pro first. Kudos to them for creating a wager.

Criteria

Apple has to call it a “soundbar”.

A cheap Vision Pro is $1,000 (USD) or less. Apple doesn’t have to call it cheap.

I understand “released” to mean the product is being received by customers.

Only the first product needs to be released for this question to be resolved. Apple does not need to release the other product for this question to be resolved.

If Apple releases both products at the same time, then I’ll resolve this question to NO.

If Apple releases a product that is both a “soundbar” and a cheap Vision Pro, then I’ll resolve this question to NO, after making sure I’m not looking at The Onion.

@HankyUSA this is silly, but will you inflation adjust the $1000 figure?

@DavidFWatson I want this question to match the wager between Chris Welch and Nilay Patel, so I'll defer to how they resolve their bet. If that is not possible or practical, then I will use my best judgement which will take inflation into account. Do you have a source you recommend for doing inflation calculations?

@HankyUSA Probably whatever the Fed uses is fine, PCE I think? And look it up via FRED
