Background
Google has already launched a Deep Research tool available to Gemini Advanced users via Google Workspace. This tool helps explore complex topics and presents findings in comprehensive reports. However, it differs from OpenAI's Deep Research in several key aspects:
OpenAI's Deep Research: Known for generating detailed, academically rigorous reports with high-quality citations, making it suitable for complex technical inquiries. Available through ChatGPT Pro at $200/month.
Google's Current Deep Research: Focuses more on broad overviews and rapid analysis, with strong integration with Google Workspace tools. Available at a lower cost ($20/month) but generally considered less advanced for deep, complex research tasks.
Google continues to expand and improve its AI offerings, but there's currently a capability gap between the two research tools.
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve based on my subjective assessment ("vibes") of when Google launches a Deep Research tool that matches or exceeds current OpenAI's in terms of:
Depth and complexity of analysis
Quality of citations and references
Ability to handle technical and specialized topics
Overall usefulness for academic or professional research
I will resolve the earliest applicable option as YES if Google's Deep Research tool reaches parity with OpenAI's by that date, based on my evaluation and personal testing.
If Google's tool reaches this level of quality before April 1, 2025, "Before 2025-04-01" will resolve YES (and all other options will resolve YES as well). If it happens between April 1 and May 1, only "Before 2025-04-01" will resolve NO while later dates resolve YES, and so on.
