Yes [I'm >50% to go to the party]

Manifold is hosting an election day watch party at Lighthaven, an event space in Berkeley. I suggested to @SG, who's organizing the party, to have a safe space for Harris supporters and a safe space for Trump supporters. (In other words, a designated space on the Lighthaven campus for Harris supporters to go to if they prefer to be around Harris supporters, and similarly for Trump.)

The idea is that people who are stressed or sad about election results may want to have easy access to a space where other attendees aren't celebrating. Stephen disagrees with me, saying that he thinks this is likely to backfire and on net create even more tension. He's also concerned about negative media attention.

I think safe spaces are way too common, but I think trying to suppress my stress would make me a much worse better. I wouldn’t use the safe space by default, but having the option of recharging at one briefly would be helpful if the default space gets too intense.

I don’t like the idea of people using them by default though, and I think most people are more likely to do that than I am. I’m second guessing my yes vote as a result.

Hmm, this is an interesting idea! I want to have a space where discussion of the election is banned, I wonder to what extent that would suffice?

@Conflux I think it wouldn't suffice for a thing that I want, which is to be able to feel safe being sad or stressed around others.
