Resolution criteria

  • This market is independent multiple choice with answers open to anyone (addAnswersMode: ANYONE).

  • Each individual candidate's answer option will resolve to YES if that person officially receives the nomination of the Republican Party for President of the United States for the 2028 presidential election. All other listed candidates will resolve to NO.

  • Resolution will be determined by the official roll-call vote at the 2028 Republican National Convention, or the official declaration of the nominee by the Republican National Committee (gop.com).

  • If no convention vote takes place or the nominee is selected via an alternative official RNC mechanism, resolution will follow the official certification submitted by the RNC to state election authorities.

  • If a person is nominated but later withdraws, dies, or is replaced before the general election, the market resolves to the person who was officially nominated at the convention, unless the creator specifies otherwise prior to the convention.

  • New answers can be added by any user if an unlisted candidate enters the race or secures the nomination.

Background

  • Donald Trump won the presidency in 2024, making him term-limited under the 22nd Amendment and barring him from serving a third presidential term, leaving the 2028 Republican nomination an open contest.

  • Vice President JD Vance enters the cycle as a primary front-runner among party leadership and MAGA-aligned voters.

  • Other prominent potential contenders who ran in 2024 or have frequently been cited as prospective 2028 candidates include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Senators Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, Tim Scott, and Rand Paul.
