Resolved
YES

Jacob Zuma, previous South African president and head of the ANC has created a new political party.

If this new party takes part in the 2024 general election in South Africa and gets 10% or more of the vote as per the electoral commission this resolves as yes

If the party disbands, does not take part in or does not receive at least 10% of the vote it resolves as no

Constitutional court has ruled JZ can't stand for position in parliament due to 15 month prison sentence. Unsure what effect this will have on MK Party

@Dave_9000ish I mean he could still be leader of the party without having a position in parliament. The same way that Helen Zille is the Chairperson of the Federal Council of the Democratic Alliance, but doesn't occupy any government position at the moment.

@moyamo agreed, but was thinking of effect on party popularity

I don't think JZ is very popular outside of KZN. His favourability amongst blacks in general is 37 where as Cyril's is 50.

However Zuma's favourability amongst blacks in KZN is more than 63 whereas Rhamaposa's favourability is less than 30.

If MK party wins 50% of the votes in KZN, I think it will only get about 6% of the national vote. I highly doubt they will get even that. So it's hard to see how they can get 10% of the national vote.

bought Ṁ50 YES

@moyamo My analysis seems to have been completely wrong. There hasn't been a single poll that has polled MK below 10%

@moyamo I don't know, I think it's still unlikely. Although a lot of airtime recently because of the court cases so free publicity and now JZ tops their parliament list so 🤷‍♂️
