I left the LDS church in 2017 while a student at BYU.
@Vergissfunktor Yes, both of my parents are active members and 4 of my 5 siblings are active. I live with my girlfriend, who also left the LDS church (and almost all of her family is still active in the LDS church).
@LukeHanks because I stopped believing in God, which made it hard to want to practice. I still play in a Mormon orchestra though and get along well with members.
@CarsonGale doesn't BYU have harsh penalties for any student that leaves the LDS Church? How did that affect you?
@LukeHanks it's possible. I was really lucky - i had one ecclesiastical endorsement left to complete and I was honest with my bishop, who decided to pass me through the interview without problem. I was always open about my beliefs if anyone asked but didn't bring it up proactively, and there were no issues.
@CarsonGale I'm glad to hear that.
Regarding the resolution criteria, does reconverting to Mormonism necessitate belief in God? Does reconverting to Mormonism necessitate participation in the LDS Church? Would joining the Community of Christ count?
@LukeHanks yes, yes, no. I think of splinter groups as fundamentally distinct from the organization I'm intending to reference in the question.
Simply starting to attend church without true conversion would not resolve positively.
