This applies to "any public official", ie if whatever happened is construed as trump bribing other Republicans then trump would be automatically barred under this statute

@Conflux Absolutely there is. There are several ways to be banned from ever being elected to federal office. In fact if Trump is charged in the document case and convicted that is one of the statutory consequences.
@Conflux If he goes to jail so do a bunch of secret service agents. They don't deserve that.
