Resolution criteria
This market resolves to YES if, by 11:59 PM PT on December 31, 2027, a physical "Midjourney Scanner" (or an officially branded Midjourney Medical ultrasonic scanner) is actively available in the United States for paid, full-body scans to members of the general public.
To qualify for a YES resolution:
Public Accessibility: The service must be open to the general public for booking. Paid bookings can be recreational, wellness-focused (such as at the proposed "Midjourney Spa"), or clinical. Limited clinical trials, invite-only betas, or free promotional runs do not qualify.
Paid Service: Customers must be able to purchase a scan directly, or have it covered under a paid service/subscription model.
Location: At least one physical facility housing an operational scanner must be open and operating within the United States.
Verification: Resolution will be determined using official announcements from Midjourney, Midjourney Medical, booking websites showing open and valid appointment slots, or reports from reputable technology and medical news publications (such as The Verge, TechCrunch, or Bloomberg).
If no such scanner is available for paid public scans in the United States by the deadline, the market resolves to NO.
Background
On June 17, 2026, Midjourney surprised the technology world by announcing the launch of its new medical division, "Midjourney Medical," and its first physical hardware product, "The Midjourney Scanner". The device is a full-body ultrasonic scanner that utilizes 8,960 transducers arranged in a ring around the body, operating as a radiation-free alternative to traditional MRI and CT scans.
The scanner relies on "ultrasound-on-chip" technology licensed through a multi-million dollar agreement with Butterfly Network (NYSE: BFLY). Midjourney founder David Holz stated that the company plans to build 50,000 of these scanners, starting with a flagship "Midjourney Spa" in San Francisco's Union Square. This boutique spa is scheduled to house 10 scanners and is projected to open by the end of 2027. This market tracks whether Midjourney successfully hits its timeline and opens its scanners to the paying American public by the close of 2027.
